Four for Friday – b/w Metal music videos

I love music. I love movies. So I decided that today’s post should be dedicated to some interesting black and white Metal music videos. All of them are pretty dark – not just because of the lack of colours in them. The songs and the videos are multilayered, you can find different meanings in the lyrics and the pictures. Every time I rewatch them I find something new. This is what makes me return to a movie or a piece of music or an artwork, a landscape… or a person. You are never done exploring in this world and in your life.

1) Within Temptation – Faster

This version includes the short film „Mother Maiden“. It’s worth the watch. You can find the two other WT short films here and here.  You need to see all three of them to understand. It’s creepy. It’s great. Makes me want to see more.

2) In Flames – Through Oblivion

Great song and very powerful black and white video. The only time they use colour is when the maincharacter finally „sees the light“.

3) Apocalyptica – Shadowmaker ft. Franky Perez

The video shows scenes from Robert Wiene’s movie „Genuine“ (1920). The Make-up and the costumes are looking brilliantly darksided.  The movie goes really well with the music. It doesn’t sound like a typical Apocalyptica-song – but I really appreciate it when a band (or anyone!) tries something new. It’s progress. When I first heard the song I thought it’s Chris Cornell’s voice. They sound pretty similar in my opinion.

4) Moonspell – Extinction

Interesting and very dark video. I was surprised to say the least. It’s disturbing and beautiful at the same time.
